Ankara, Turkey (AHN) - Turkey has suspended an admiral and two of its generals for plotting a military coup to oust Islamic-rooted Justice and Development Party’s government.
This is the first time the government is suspending serving officers.
The trial to hear 200 militia members over the 2003 plot is likely to start on December 16.
Besides setting the stage for coup, the conspirators are also blamed for plotting attacks on mosques, provoking tension and triggering instability in Greece.
The government also said that some military sections favor Islamization.
