Morocco: 'Al-Qaeda-linked' drug ring busted

Rabat, 15 Oct. (AKI) - An international drug trafficking ring with links to Al- Qaeda was broken up by police in Morocco, according to Arab-language sattelite news channel Al-Arabiya.

According to authorities in Morocco's capital Rabat, the "very dangerous" criminal organisation had ties to Latin America and had used an Al-Qaeda base in Mali, according to the report.

Six people were arrested, including two Spanish citizens who were found in possession of large sums of money and different cars used to transport the drugs within Morocco.

Police also seized large quantities of cocaine and other illegal substances.
