Suicide bomber kills two policemen in the latest terror attack in Russia
A suicide bomber has killed two policemen in an attack on a police station in Russia, the third terrorist outrage in the country in a week.
A third officer was wounded in the blast outside the police headquarters in Karabulak, in the North Caucasus province of Ingushetia.
Another person was injured as the town was rocked by a second explosion nearby, officials said.
It follows suicide bombings on Moscow's Metro underground train system and a railway line in Deagestan that left a total of 50 Russians dead in the most serious escalation in an undeclared guerrilla war since 2004.
Two Russian policemen Adam Kostoyev (L) and Adam Nalgiyev killed by the blast in Karabulak are seen in this undated handout. A suicide bomber killed two policemen in Russia's Ingushetia region on Monday, the latest in a spate of attacks that underscore the threat from an Islamist insurgency on Russia's southern flank.
Islamist extremist groups have been blamed for today's attack in which a suicide bomber approached the police headquarters and detonated his explosives in Karabulak, 12 miles from the regional capital Magas.
'According to preliminary information a suicide bomber set off an explosion outside the town's police station,' said a spokesman for the local interior ministry.
'Two policemen were killed and one policeman was injured and is now being treated in the hospital.'
Half an hour later, a vehicle parked near the scene exploded, wounding a worker of the local prosecutor's office.
Ingushetia,a predominantly Muslim region close to Chechnya, is plagued by almost daily attacks targeting law enforcement authorities, part of an upsurge in violence in Russia's North Caucasus.
But last Monday, Moscow faced its first attack in six years when two female suicide bombers killed 40 commuters at two Metro stations in the centre of the capital.
On Wednesday, Chechen rebels claimed responsibility for the Moscow metro bombings and threatened further attacks against Russian cities.
And fears of a a new bombing campaign against the Russian heartland intensified after a twin bomb attack on a railway line in Dagestan on Sunday that security forces said was linked to the other attacks.
