One of the reason for the conference Ridley was attending was to get these Muslim women out to vote to seize power in the southern India state of Kerala.
British journalist and former Taliban captive Yvonne Ridley has alleged she was denied visa by India to address a Muslim women’s conference in Kerala.
Ridley, who converted to Islam after her release, was to inaugurate the conference themed “women power for social revolution” organised by the women’s wing of the Jamaat-e-Islami in Kerala’s Muslim-dominated Malappuram district on Sunday evening.
“I have great respect for Gandhi’s philosophy of non-violence and we have been practising this in Gaza protests. But I don’t know why I have been denied a visa to visit Gandhi’s land,” Ridley told the meeting through videoconferencing.
The journalist who currently works for Iran’s Press TV network is a vocal critic of India’s Kashmir policy. She was in the country in 2008 addressing a series of public gatherings and press conferences.
“I was quite surprised by the Indian response. I didn’t expect this and it appears mysterious,” said Ridley who is also a leftwing Respect Party politician. “There are forces that are out to damage the image of democratic India.”

The meeting also became a venue for the prominent Muslim group, which has recently been lending support to the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) [a communist party] in Kerala to enter the electoral fray.
The meeting called upon its followers to utilise the opportunity thrown up by the 50% quota for women in the elections to the civic councils due in September to prove that they could ensure a corruption-free administration.
“We can make critical interventions in social and political spheres without shirking our responsibility to our families,” said K K Fatima Zahra, president of the Jamaat-e-Islami women’s wing. “The new generation is ready to become the flag carriers of truth and make a difference.”
Sources said the group is likely to let its members run as independents in the election to test the waters before launching its own political outfit.
Tens of thousands of women attended the conference.
The organisation that allowed its members to vote for the first time in 1977 to defeat the Congress Party has been supporting candidates with “good characters”, mostly belonging to the Left Democratic Front led by the communists.
“In the three-tier panchayati raj (local self-government) system, 50% of the seats are reserved for women. The next elections are a great opportunity as well as a heavy responsibility,” said Zuhra.

The most concise definition of God in Islam is given in the four verses of Surah Ikhlas which is Chapter 112 of the Qur’an:
"Say: He is Allah,
The One and Only.
"Allah, the Eternal, Absolute.

Surah Ikhlas (Chapter 112) of the Glorious Qur’an, is the touchstone of theology. ‘Theo’ in Greek means God and ‘logy’ means study. Thus Theology means study of God and to Muslims this four line definition of Almighty God serves as the touchstone of the study of God. Any candidate to divinity must be subjected to this ‘acid test’. Since the attributes of Allah given in this chapter are unique, false gods and pretenders to divinity can be easily dismissed using these verses.
