Does the OIC not object to the recent bill passed in the Maldives for example - that will allow no building of non-Muslim places of worship - and will imprison visitors for 3-5 years for breaking religious laws. Or that fact that no non-Muslim is allowed to hold citizenship there. Why did it not express the same disappointment with the Egyptian fatwa that describes the building of churches as sinful and like that of building barns for cats, dogs and pigs. What is its view on the fact that Saudi Arabia has no churches or other non-Muslim places of worship. If it does not object to these things - than it must be for getting non-Muslims to understand that these inequalities - between the tolerance for minority beliefs in the Islamic and Western world - should be tolerated.
GENEVA, Nov 29 (KUNA) -- The Director of the office of the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) here Ambassador Babacar Ba called upon the Muslim community in Switzerland for calm after the Sunday vote rejecting construction of the Minarets.
Ambassador Ba told KUNA that this was a "surprise and disappointing vote" and posed a serious problem because it risks the increase in extremist trends and gives the wrong impression that Islam is rejected in Switzerland.
He appealed for the path to dialogue and not confrontation, and also appealed to the Swiss authorities work closely with the OIC and Muslim countries to address the growing challenge of the rise of Islmophobia in Europe.
Ambassador Ba warned that the country must not be driven into the hands of extremists.
